[]Drug Abuse PSA
The topic of drug abuse stuck out to me because in our society, drugs (both illegal and legal) are being abused. They are being widespread, normalized, and play a huge role in today's music and media. Drugs are seen as an escape from the normal world and a backdoor into something less harsh. Through that idea, more and more illegal drugs have been the cause of many deaths or harm. A statement by the CDC says that: "In 2016, there were more than 63,600 drug overdose deaths in the United States" (CDC.gov). More Americans died from drug overdose in 2016 than the number of American lives which were lost during the whole entire Vietnam War which was 58,200. Drug abuse is a serious topic in todays society and is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and current efforts to legalize once illegal drugs isn't helping.

[]What is surrealism?
-Surrealism is something that has or resembles the qualities of being dreamlike, out of this world, or abnormal. Through surrealism you can create a world of your own where the most unexpected or unreal objects can dwell. For example, a dream where you are floating through space and find some aliens, would be surreal. Surrealism relates to photography because with it, we can warp our photos in ways that make the viewer question what they're looking at, we can almost alter reality and change what people see as normal into abnormal or unknown.

Photo Four
-Strength: The mirrors being infinitely reflected give a mysterious or cryptic feel to the image.
-Improvement: The subject could've been something a bit more interesting than a chair.
Photo Five:
-Strength: The cards give movement and life to the image, while the mysterious magician sort of ties it back into reality.

[]What is a pun?
-A pun is a joke that deals with a word and the different meanings, connotations, or the sounds of the word. It is also commonly known as a "play on words." A pun is usually just typed or written out, but can also be represented visually through multiple images and that would be called a visual pun.
[]Pun Ideas
-somebody's head with a bed on it to make bedhead.
-picture of somebody's shoe and replace it with a ball to make football.
-picture of a car trunk with water in it to make carpool.
-picture of a wooden board with a key in it to make keyboard
-picture with a jar of jelly and a fish in the jelly to make jellyfish

Image One:
-Photographer: Philip-Lorca diCorcia
-Title: William Charles Everlove; 26 years old; Stockholm, Sweden via Arizona; $40
-Year: 1990-92
Adjective: Lonely
-The reason I chose this image is because it depicts a young man looking out the window from the inside of a dark room. I feel that really exemplifies the adjective I chose, which is lonely.
Image Two:
-Photographer: Philip-Lorca diCorcia
-Title: Ralph Smith; 21 years old; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; $25
-Year: 1990-92
-Adjective: Contemplative
The reason I chose this image is because it has one of the most simple backgrounds, a fast food sign. This image also relates to my adjective very well because it shows the young man sitting along with a contemplative look on his face.
Image Three:
-Photographer: Philip-Lorca diCorcia
-Title: Lynn and Shirley
-Year: 2008
Adjective: Affectionate
-The reason I chose this image is because the setting is interesting, in a house lit only by the kitchen light and the small streak of light shining in through the window. This image also goes very well with the adjective I chose because it shows affection and bonding between the two subjects.
-Ideas:
-Somebody sitting with their head down in a corner of a room depicting loneliness.
-Somebody jumping in the air showing happiness.
-Somebody with an angry face and their arms crossed which would show anger.

[]Samples
I liked the first image because the clouds and sky are visually appealing and look cool. An improvement could be to switch up the angle.
The second image is overall a great photo, the pink sky outlines the subject's silhouette, and the street signs and buildings give more "life" to the photo and make it more interesting. I don't see many improvements that could be made except for maybe giving the sky more color to make it pop.
The third image is very interesting because the sky brings out the silhouettes more and the buildings are balanced. An improvement could be to crop out extra buildings and just have the two in the middle.
The fourth image is appealing to me because your eyes follow the movement of the light posts all the way down the street. An improvement could be to use a filter for the sky because the orange sky is plain or bland.
I chose the final image because it is intriguing to see all the ducks or birds on the pier doing their own thing. An improvement might be changing the silhouette to be darker because you can still see detail in the wood on the pier.

“People say I….”
“What is it that your friends or family say about you?
What do they know about you?
Is it true or is something missing in the picture they have of you?”
Response: People say that I’m a nice and funny person, some call me weird. My family says I have a good taste in music. My family also says that I’m pretty funny as well. My family and friends know a lot about me. They know my interests and my passions are photography, skateboarding, music, and gaming. My friends and family know I can get annoyed or irritated easily but I’m pretty easygoing besides that. They know that I don’t get offended easily and that I am a truthful person. This is all true and there isn’t much missing from this “picture”.

[]abstract
One of the most common definitions of abstract would be: existing in thought or as an idea but not having a concrete or physical existence. the definition that might relate more to photography would be the fine arts definition: of or relating to the formal aspect of art emphasizing lines, colors, generalized or geometrical forms, especially with reference to their relationship to one another.
Abstract relates to photography because like abstract art it makes you think outside the box and really tests your creative limits to find the correct subject that really makes your viewer think and also keeps your photo interesting while still puzzling.

[]value
Value is how bright or how dark a color is. For example white is the lightest, then gray is slightly darker, and then black is the darkest color. Value can be used to bring out your subject matter by having your subject matter be the lightest and the background be the darkest. Another way value can be applied is with shadows. You can use the dark in the shadows to conceal unwanted objects that could be distracting the viewer from the main point or subject of your photo. It is good to balance out the lights and the darks to create a more understandable image or one that is more aesthetically pleasing. Value can be used for many things and can highlight or drown out certain things.

[]negative space photography write-up
Negative space is a way of using the background to fill up most of the space around your subject. This is important because it can help frame your subject or even help draw your eye towards the subject. Space can be used to help balance out your image by placing and positioning your subject carefully to have just the right amount of your background surrounding your subject. Negative space can relate to photography because you’re choosing a blank background, like a white wall or blue sky and then placing your subject so that it is framed by the blank background. My ideas are having someone stand against a white wall, someone or something’s shadow against a wall, a flag flying in the sky, a picture of a white object on a black background to have a strong contrast while relating back to negative space, and tree-tops in the sky.

[]shape photography write up
The dictionary definition of shape would be: the external form or appearance characteristic of someone or something; the outline of an area or figure. The definition of shape in art would be an object's form and the physical appearance of the object. Shape can be 2-Dimensional like a flat square or circle. Shape can also be 3-Dimensional such as a sphere, cube, or prism. Shape relates to photography because we can capture the shape of an object with different angles and through those different angles, the shape of the object could appear differently or warped. Shape relates to art because through art you can create any shape you want through different methods of shading and placing a "light" on the shape you are sketching or painting to make it appear 3-dimensional. I plan on capturing shape by taking photos of spheres such as: oranges, or playground balls. Some more ideas could be strangely shaped objects like: tables, chairs, or benches. Other ideas could be having someone make shapes with their arms or hands and take photos of the shapes created or taking a photo of the shadow the persons arms or hands cast on a background.

Overall I think I did well on this assignment. The texture of each subject is obvious and clear. One thing I could improve on would be editing. Sometimes I don't want to over do it on editing and that causes some of my images to look not as edited as the others.
[]texture photography
Texture is the specific way an object feels when you touch it or see it in a photograph or video/movie. Texture relates to art because it is on of the Elements of Art. It adds another form of dimension to your art piece by giving it a sort of feel if you were to touch it or a different physical appearance if you saw it. Texture relates to photography because photography is a form of art. You can photograph texture to make your photo have a more realistic feel. I plan on taking photos with texture by choosing unusual subjects like leaves or tree bark that have an obvious texture to them.
